The gargoyles and chimeras of Notre-Dame de Paris

While waiting to be able to climb into the towers of Notre-Dame de Paris, here are the gargoyles and chimeras.
They have the role of protecting religious buildings against demons and sinners.

In contact with the outside, the world of Evil, they remind us that Good is inside the Church, and by its frightening aspect they keep the enemies of God away from sacred places.

In the 19th century, most of the gargoyles were replaced and all the chimeras came out of the medieval imagination of Viollet le Duc.
